Shisendo Temple（詩仙堂）
1. Location-Access
This temple is located at the north of Ginkakuji Temple in Rakuhoku Area in Kyoto.
It takes 40 minutes by city bus #5 from Kyoto sta. to Ichijoji-Sagarimatsu-cho, ten-minute walk.
(この寺は、洛北エリアで銀閣寺北側に位置している。
市バス5系統 京都駅（約40分）→一乗下り松、徒歩10分 ）
2. Who was this temple built ?
1) This temple was built in 1641 as the residence of Ishikawa Jozan. He was a samurai to serve Tokugawa Iemitsu, but retired to become a poet due to Osaka-Natunojin war fail.
（この寺は、1641年石川丈山の住居として建てられた。彼は徳川家康に仕えていたが、大阪夏の陣で失敗し武士を辞め詩人となった。）
2) When Jozan lived in seclusion 31 years as an unworldly man, he wrote their poets with india ink beside the portrait of 36 Chinese Poets.
(丈山はここに31年間隠棲して仙人の境地で生きてきた時、中国三十六詩仙の肖像画の傍で、墨汁で彼らの詩を書いた。)
3) The official name of this temple is Shisendo-Jozanji. This temple is Soutou Sect,Eihei school, the principality is Merou-hu Kannon.
（詩仙堂の正式名称は詩仙堂丈山寺である。この寺は曹洞宗、永平寺派、本尊：馬郎婦
観音である。）
4) The name of Shisendo come from Shisen-noma. It means uneven residence.
（詩仙堂の名前は詩仙の間が由来している。凸凹した住居した意味でもある。）
3. What is this temple famous for ?
1) The portrais of 36 Chinese Poets in Shienno-ma 詩仙の間の中国三十三詩仙肖像画
① The prescient of this temple is assigned to Japanese historical site. And portraits of 36 famous Chinese Poets, who drawn by brother Tankyu Kanou and Naonobu are set up in the room Shisen-no-ma.
Beside the picture, Ishikawa Jozan wrote their poets with india ink.
（この寺の境内一円が国の史跡に指定されている。狩野探幽、尚信兄弟による描かれた中国三十六詩仙の肖像画が詩仙の間に飾られている。その傍に、石川丈山の墨汁の詩がある。）
② When he selected 36 poets, Jozan asked Hayashi Rozan, who was a Confucian scholar and opinions. Rozan separated into 2 groups from 36 pictures and set them up the left side and right side following some reasons.
Shisen-no-ma was rebuilt in 1963.
（彼が36人の詩を選んだ時、儒学者、林羅山に尋ねた。 羅山は36の肖像画を2つのグループに分け、左右18人の組合せのアレンジを意見した。現在の詩仙の間は1963年復元された。）
2) Shisendo Garden 詩仙堂庭園
① When we look at the garden in early summer from Shisen-noma, white sand is ballasted and azaleas are planted and cut like ball. And there are green maple leaves far from Shisen-no-ma. These colors of plants make special atomosphere.
One of the attractiveness for this garden is different from season.
Season in azaleas blooming is great contracted with the season in maple viewing.
（詩仙の間から眺める初夏の庭は、白い砂が敷き詰められて、サツキの周囲が丸く刈り込まれている。詩仙の間から離れた緑の楓が見える。これらの木々の色彩が独特の雰囲気を醸し出している。この庭の魅力のひとつは、四季が異なる姿である。サツキの花が咲く季節と、紅葉の季節では、非常にコントラストが楽しめる。）
② Kirishima-azalea near the entrance has presence as big as the Azaleas in the garden.
In early May, it blooms a lot of flowers and welcomes to visitors.
In autumn, the maples change to red coloring of leaves here and there.
（入口の近くにあるキリシマツツジは、庭のサツキと同じぐらい存在感がある。5月初旬に、多くの花を咲かせ参拝者を歓迎してくれる。秋には庭のあちこちで楓が色づく。）
③ The colors are dark red, orange, yellow and we cannot express the colors.
The garden is like a beautiful picture. “Shishi-odoshi”, which is water bamboo clapper, is in this garden. It installed in Shisendo for the first time in Japan.
When you enjoy the quiet garden and feel calm, the sound of bamboo from Shishi-odosi” is very poetic.
（その色は濃赤、橙色、黄色など言葉で表現できないくらいで、美しい絵画のようである。
水力式の竹クラッパーの“鹿威し”はこの庭に存在している。日本で初めて「鹿威し」が
作られたのが詩仙堂である。静かな庭を見て心を落ち着かせている時、竹の音が響き
渡りとても風情がある。）
